When looking at healing the energy body, it’s wise to start at the foundation and move up, much like building a house.
First chakra basics
The first chakra, or muladhara, translates as root support. It represents our foundation. It is located at the base of the tailbone, and shines like a spinning spotlight towards the earth. It’s color is red, the slowest vibration of the color spectrum. This energetic foundation is our tribe. Our ancestry. Our culture. Belonging, feeling, and believing that we belong. Feeling like we fit. Like we have purpose, and that we matter.
Our energetic foundation forms from the time we are in the womb through the first year of our life. If we are kept safe, secure, and our needs are met as infants, we typically thrive when it comes to feeling those things as we grow through life at any age or stage. We feel safe in our bodies and in the world, and we feel grounded, connected, and are able to more easily stay present within our bodies and the moment.
This energy center develops when we are in the womb up to about a year old. Any womb trauma, or trauma during this first stage of life will affect the development of the energy center, and therefore affect how you interpret life. If this energy center is developed by a strong, loving, safe environment during your infancy, where you experience your needs being met with love, you are more likely to handle traumas with ease later in life.
Traumas do not have to be intentional in order to create wounding at an energetic level. For example, if you were born prematurely, and your mom did not immediately hold you and bond with you, because they whisked you away to save your life or hers? You might struggle to experience the blessings of first chakra energy during your life. Feeling like you are on the outside looking in. Feeling like you can’t let people get close to you for fear of hurting them or you. Feeling like you have to hold people at arms length, and it’s not “safe” to receive love from others.
How to heal? Awareness. Acknowledgement. Intention. Energy follows intention. When we become conscious of a deep seated belief or emotion, we have the power to let it go. Intentionally release your parents (and or ancestors) fears from your body, and receive their love. ❤️ Love, not fear, heals us and protects us. ❤️ Fear weakens us, and it always will. It is the so-called “demon” of the 1st chakra. 👹 Whenever we experience fear, consciously doing things to bring awareness to first chakra energy cultivates healing. 🌟
Feeling ungrounded, anxious, or like you don’t belong?
First chakra healing practices invite us to get in our bodies and move, or find stillness. Use your intuition to choose what your body and mind need to create balance. Hike, walk, run, lift weights, dance… get in your body, and get outside. The element is earth, so anything that helps us feel stable & nourished, whether that be movement, touch, or food, is good for balancing the first chakra.
Nature itself heals our first chakra energy by helping us feel grounded, stable, and nourished. Gardening, sitting or walking in the grass barefoot (earthing), eating proteins, (meats, nuts, seeds, as well as root vegetables because they literally grow in the earth), with the intention of healing & nourishing the physical structure of the body, are simple ways of reconnecting with our bodies and balancing this foundational energy. 🌳❤️🌳
Yoga can be especially grounding for anyone who typically disassociates from their body. Any kind of mindful movement or stillness, where conscious attention and awareness is placed on the body, is helpful in healing this energy center. Try the yoga video linked in this blog. You’ll need a yoga strap, or a scarf or belt. Another simple way to ground is to massage the bottoms of your feet with a tennis ball, or sit with your tailbone rooted to the earth, or on a cushion, and meditate, focusing on the space where your breath meets your body.
First Chakra Affirmations
Use Affirmations… whether you say them out loud until they feel true, (meditate and or journal about the ones that don’t), or just create attention around the experience, conscious affirmations help to shift our subconscious emotional patterns and beliefs. The following is a handful of sample affirmations to balance first chakra energy. Choose the ones that resonate with you. Say them out loud, or repeat them in your mind throughout the day to continually bring awareness back to what you are consciously creating. 🌳❤️🌳❤️🌳
- I feel safe.
- I am safe.
- I allow myself to feel safe & protected.
- I feel safe in my body.
- It’s okay to love and accept my body.
- I choose to trust my body.
- I allow all of my needs to be met.
- I am secure.
- I am supported.
- I have a support system.
- I am in the right place at the right time.
- I accept my body and give myself permission to understand all that it teaches me.
- My body receives nourishment for growth.
- I choose to listen to my body & lovingly nourish my body.
Create your own affirmations that hold the essence of what you want to experience. Any positively worded statement of: ~I am ~I have ~I feel ~I experience ~I allow myself to feel/be ~I give myself permission… Affirmations aren’t about lying to yourself, they are about building awareness around your current “truth”, so that you can create the life that you desire ❤️🔥❤️.
